Eric Carle Inspired Work

For this project, we were asked to study the work of artist Eric Carle. His paintings use a variety of colors and textures to create stories. Prior to creating this picture, I painted a few sheets of paper and added texture while the paint was still wet. Then, I drew out the design I wanted to create. After the drawing was finished, I glued the painted paper onto it, following the lines. We were asked to write part of a story on our painting, just as Eric Carle did in his children's books. A teacher could also use this activity in an English class by having the students work individually or in a group to create a story that goes along with their paintings. This activity is great for students because it allows them to be creative with paint and with their words.
