Hoppy In Plaid

This project was geared towards first graders. We were discussing complimentary colors and my group was assigned red and green. The theme of this activity was also plaid. We were asked to make lines of different widths horizontally with green and then vertically with red to create a plaid pattern. Then, we traced and cut out different sized ovals made of our plaid paper to form a bunny. We glued cotton balls to the bunny for a tail and drew faces on after the paint was dry. Lastly, we were asked to glue our bunny to a diffrent colored piece construction paper for a background.
An extnsion activity a teacher could impliment with this activity would be to study different types of patterns such as checker board or argyle using the same concept. The students could use the patterns to create paper clothing, animals, buildings, etc. Then, the students could write reflections about what they created and why.
